WSL checklist

WSL – stands for “Windows Subsystem for Linux” is an awesome feature that let’s you run full Linux system inside windows. You can install Ubuntu and use it’s command line. Here is how you set it up and checklist of my setups and applications.

Enable WSL in windows

You have to enable the WSL using power shell. Run power shell as administrator and execute the following command:

Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -FeatureName Microsoft-Windows-Subsystem-Linux

Search for Ubuntu (or other distribution) application in the Mictrosoft store. Install it.

Accessing windows files from WSL

You can find your windows file-system under /mnt

$ cd /mnt/c
$ ls

Applications and setup checklist

$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt install python3-pip
$ pip3 install youtube-dl

.bash_aliases

alias ymp3="youtube-dl --extract-audio --audio-format mp3 --audio-quality 0 --add-metadata"
